Men’s soccer tallies four goals in win over West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – To wrap up the season series against West Liberty University, Notre Dame College scored twice in the first half, twice in the second half and cruised to a 4-1 victory on Saturday.

The Falcons took seven shots throughout the first half of play, but neither team found the net in the early going. In the 35th minute, NDC broke through as junior Jordan Lewis found freshman Ailton Fagner Silva to give Notre Dame a 1-0 advantage.

About seven minutes later, sophomore Lukas Hackaa pushed the Falcons further ahead with a goal. Taylor Dyson was credited with an assist.

As the two teams took the pitch following the halftime break, the Hilltoppers did not wait long to cut NDC's lead in half. A pass from Danilo Tavares found Liam Toman, who scored WLU's first goal 1:22 into the second stanza.

Notre Dame responded with two goals late in the game, similar to their offensive production late in their overtime win last Wednesday against Alderson Broaddus.

Hackaa continues to be a nightmare for opponents this season and in the second half on Saturday, the Falcons' midfielder assisted Ned Dry's goal in the 79th minute and then scored a second time with eight minutes remaining in the game. That assist went to freshman Carlos Almeida.

Hackaa now has four goals, eight assists and 16 points in seven games. In two games against West Liberty, he totaled three goals, three assists and nine points. This season, he ranks first in NCAA Division II with 1.14 assists per game and is second in total assists.

Notre Dame will not play again until Oct. 10, when they host West Virginia Wesleyan College. That contest is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
