South Euclid, OH – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team (4-6-3, 4-5-3 MEC, 15 points) hosted the top ranked team in the MEC North Division in Frostburg State University (10-3-1, 9-2-1 MEC, 28 points) on a cold and rainy afternoon on Mueller Field. This is the second meeting between the two sides, dating back to Sept. 26 when the teams dueled to a scoreless draw. On this Sunday, NDC's
Louisa Follert netted her team leading seventh goal of the season to pull the Falcons over the Bobcats 1-0.
In the first half, it was early in the 4
th minute when Follert applied pressure to the FSU defense forcing a Bobcat miscue that allowed the Dortmund, Germany product alone with an empty net. It was a picture-perfect start to the match for Head Coach
Mike Shiels and the Falcons who were seeking to snap a four-game losing streak. Moreover, Frostburg State would inevitably return with shots on goal of their own in the 34
th and 35
th minutes, but All-MEC goalkeeper
Jordan Pasalaqua denied the only two first half attempts she saw.
In the second half, Pasalaqua was called upon again in the 55
th minute to mark her third and final save of the afternoon. Follert would continue to pressure the Bobcats in the attacking third by tallying three more shots on goal in the 58
th, 71
st and 79
th minutes.
In total, NDC generated ten shots and registered five on target from Follert (4) and
Sammy Salatino (1). On the other side, FSU also shot the ball ten times and placed three on target. Frostburg State also totaled eight corner kicks to NDC's one, while no cards were handed out by the referee.
"Really happy with the effort today," Shiels said. "We spoke about creating our own luck, through effort, and caught a break today. Every game and every point is really important at this time of year and hopefully we can build a little momentum."
Notre Dame College will be back in action on Wednesday Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. on the road against Fairmont State University. NDC will seek to build upon their massive victory today.
