Full team effort pushes NDC to big victory

ASHLAND, Ohio – Notre Dame College's offense put together a nice showing on Friday afternoon against Ashland University with 19 goals on 33 shots, while the defense played a part in Ashland's 16 turnovers. The Falcons scored 11 goals in the second half to run away with a 19-8 victory.

Notre Dame wasted little time to begin the game as Ebony Reddick won the draw control for NDC. Down the field, Kendal Johnson found Reddick for the first goal of the game with 28:38 on the clock.

Ashland matched NDC goal for goal early in the game and with 21:01 to go in the first half, the contest was tied at two. However, that would be the last time the score was tied and Notre Dame never trailed in the game.

After the Eagles tied the game, the Falcons scored the next four goals in less than five minutes, with an assist credited to three of the goals. During that 4-0 run, Katie Wendell had two goals and an assist. The defense stepped up during the run as well and Ashland turned the ball over twice in that span.

At halftime, NDC led by a score of 8-4. Danyelle Hardy and Wendell each had two goals in the half, while Reddick had a goal and two assists.

The Falcons scored four of the first five goals in the second half. Hardy led the way with two goals in the first eight minutes of the half. A goal by Cecily Anderson with 5:26 remaining in the game, gave Notre Dame their first double-digit lead of the season at 18-8.

Ashland turned the ball over twice in the final four minutes of the contest, allowing NDC to run out much of the remaining clock.

"We had a lot of players step up today and it shows on the score sheet," said Head Coach Ben Morhac. "We had 11 different players contributing in the point column with our goalie having 11 saves. All in all, we played really well and I'm excited for our trip to Florida coming up."

The Falcons scored 19 goals for the first time since April 3, 2019. Hardy tied her career-high with five goals, while Wendell and Reddick each totaled three goals and two assists. Reddick won eight draw controls and scooped up three groundballs. With eight draw controls, she is tied for fifth all-time in single game program history. Wendell also had eight in a game, earlier this season. As a team, Notre Dame recorded 11 assists, which is tied for fifth in single game program history.

Goalie Ellejanna Cicione saved 11 shots, including seven in the first half.

Notre Dame takes their Florida trip next weekend. They will play Florida Tech, in Melbourne, Florida, on March 14. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
