FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The offense has not been an issue for Notre Dame College over the last two weeks. They have now reached 100 points in two of the last three games after defeating Fairmont State University, 108-75, on Wednesday evening. Notre Dame made 45 field goals, which tied the program record and their 108-point total is the second most the program has ever scored.
The first quarter was incredibly close through the first six minutes. In fact, six lead changes had occurred by the time Notre Dame took a 13-12 lead with 4:38 remaining, as
Theresa Parr knocked down a jumper.
However, Parr's jumper was the beginning of an 11-0 run in less than three minutes, which turned into a 17-4 run to close the quarter. NDC led 28-16 after 10 minutes of play and the Notre Dame Falcons shot 52-percent.
The second quarter went much better for the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State, as they outscored NDC, 18-17. Notre Dame missed their first four shots and split a pair of free throws. But, the NDC Falcons turned things around and used a 14-2 run to grab their largest lead of the first half, 43-22.
The home team responded and finished the quarter on an impressive 12-2 run over the final 3:19 of the second quarter. Notre Dame's lead was cut to 11 points, 45-34, at halftime. NDC was held to just 39-percent shooting in the quarter.
For the NDC Falcons, Parr started 4-for-4 in the first half and had eight points, while
Jada Marone led the team with 10 points and four assists.
To begin the third quarter,
Seina Adachi knocked down the first basket for the Falcons in the second half. With those two points, the senior passed Martha Nagbe for first place in program history in made field goals. She finished with five baskets in the game, and now has 638 for her career.
Notre Dame shot the ball well in third quarter, knocking down six three pointers. Early in the quarter, Fairmont State closed the gap to single-digits, 49-40.
Kyleigh Ramlow checked in a few minutes later and gave the NDC Falcons some energy.
Ramlow immediately recorded a steal after entering the game and then hit five of NDC's six 3-pointers in the quarter, knocking down all five in consecutive attempts. She would finish with a season-high 27 points and tied her career-high with seven three pointers made in the contest.
Not satisfied with a 29-point third quarter, NDC turned on the heat in the fourth. They shot 76-percent from the field and 67-percent from the three-point arc in the final 10 minutes.
Fairmont State went to the free throw line a lot in the fourth quarter, and their consistent shooting at the charity stripe kept the deficit from hitting 30 points. With 4:30 on the clock, the FSU Falcons were 10-for-10 at the free throw line, in the quarter. But nothing was going to stop the NDC offense, as they went on a 17-9 run over the final four minutes of the game.
"The team worked well together," said head coach
Lauren Macer. "We moved the ball and really brought energy to the game tonight. It was good to see the growth from the team as we had to make adjustments and finish the game strong. Everyone brought something to the game. Definitely a good team win."
Ramlow scored her 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting and 7-of-10 shooting from long range. Her seven three pointers are the second highest number of made threes in program history and her 70-percent shooting from long range puts her in ninth place in NDC history.
Jen Oduho and
Jessie Stout each had nine rebounds and
Jada Marone recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and tied a career-high with seven assists. Parr posted a career-high 13 points, on a career-high six made baskets, and tied her career-high at four steals.
The team's 45 made field goals ties the program record, set on November 13, 2007. Their 12 made three pointers is tied for ninth all-time at NDC and their 34-point fourth quarter is the most NDC has scored in a quarter this season.
Notre Dame now comes home to celebrate Senior Day on February 15, when they battle Frostburg University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
