CUMBERLAND, Md. - A frenzied third quarter put the Notre Dame College women's basketball team back in charge after trailing for 13 minutes at Frostburg State. NDC outscored the Bobcats 29-14 in quarter three and carried its lead through the end of the game to win 72-63.
Â
The Falcons led 17-15 after the first quarter, but fell behind 34-28 at halftime after Frostburg State gathered itself on its home court. The host's lead evaporated slowly at the start of the second half before vanishing entirely as Notre Dame went on a 13-3 run from the 5:43 to 3:03 marks.
Â
Forcing 10 turnovers in the third quarter, eight of which were directly stolen by the NDC defense, the Falcons scored 17 of their 29 points in the quarter off of turnovers.
Â
"We needed to create some energy," said head coach
Lauren Macer on her team's mindset heading into the second half. "We needed a boost because we hadn't played a game in a couple of weeks. Our defense provided some energy and turned into offense on the other end.
Â
Notre Dame, improving to 12-1 (6-1 MEC) on the year, was led defensively by
Jada Marone and
Theresa Parr. The pair of guards each led the team with four steals.
Seina Adachi and
Katie Karalic recorded multiple steals as well while four other players each tallied one takeaway.
Â
While the guards' play showed off on the stat sheet, the forwards were the unsung heroes of the game, stressing the FSU offense.
Â
"
Jen Oduho and
Jessie Stout were great tonight in applying ball pressure," Macer said. "All our forwards played well.
Julie Kemp gave us some great minutes off the bench to support our team throughout the game."
Â
Adachi played well on the offensive end by making multiple threes and clutch shots inside. Leading both teams with 24 points, she scored a personal best for her senior season so far. Marone also put up points with 19 of her own, including 11 free throw makes, which is tied for fifth most in a single game in NDC history.
Â
Kyleigh Ramlow was third on the team with nine points. Ramlow made quick work of her time on the court, cashing in on two threes within 30 seconds of each other in her first minute of play. Overall she scored nine points on three makes from distance.
Â
Stout and Adachi led the team with eight rebounds apiece while Parr and Marone spread the wealth by combining for nine assists.

Notre Dame hosts Fairmont State on Saturday, January 11, at 2 p.m.
