NDC defeats Davis & Elkins in first match up since 2014

ELKINS, W.Va. – As Notre Dame College did 12 times last season, the Falcons shut out Davis & Elkins College and scored twice in the second half to take a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

In the first half, neither team found the back of the net but the offensive stats were identical as both teams took five shots and two shots on goal.

Davis & Elkins had an opportunity in the 31st minute when Nicholas Burnz took a shot that was saved by NDC's goalkeeper Daniele De Angelis. A few seconds later, Charles Mavronis had a chance at goal, which was blocked.

NDC had a chance in the 34th minute as sophomore Arthur Moraes took a shot that was blocked followed by a shot from freshman Ned Dry that was saved by D&E's Everton Carvalho.

In the 48th minute, Notre Dame struck for the first score of the game. Senior Arthur Favero stole the ball near midfield and immediately made a break for the goal. He found Moraes running on his left side and Moraes got into the box and snuck the ball past the goalkeeper.

Near the end of the contest, senior Varis Singh Khera chased after a ball just outside of the box. After being nearly tripped from behind by a sliding defender, a stumbling Khera went down hard after Carvalho dove for the ball right in front of him. The Senators' keeper was given a yellow card.

Junior Niklas Ringdahl Bohlin took the penalty shot and he went left while the goaltender went to the right, giving NDC a 2-0 advantage with less than a minute remaining.

"It was a good trip for us and the players traveled well," said head coach Carl Nolan. "The second half was a much more powerful performance at both ends of the field. We did the basics well, and it paid off."

Both goals for NDC came from players who entered the game off the bench. Favero and Khera led the starters with three shots while Favero had an assist.

D&E only took one shot in the second half. Marcus Just had two of the six shots that his team took.

Notre Dame comes home for the first time in 2019 to host Wheeling University on September 11. The match is scheduled to start 2 p.m.
