Wise, Va. – Notre Dame College dropped their regular season finale against the MEC's first place team, the University of Virginia's College at Wise by a final score of 21-3, on Sunday afternoon.
UVa-Wise (11-6, 9-1 MEC) scored the first 11 goals of the game before the Falcons stopped the run. Sophomore
Emily Thomson took a free position shot but it was saved by the goalkeeper, Elsa Girardo. Notre Dame (7-11, 3-7 MEC) quickly regained possession when sophomore
Bridie Schmalz picked up the groundball and freshman
Katie Wendell scored the first goal for NDC.
The Cavaliers led 14-1 at the halftime break. Notre Dame would score two more in the second half. Freshman
Danyelle Hardy shot the ball, which was saved, and then picked up the groundball and took another shot, which was successful with 13:35 remaining in the second half. The other goal of the half came when senior
Taylor Henderson scored, following a caused turnover by Hardy.
Henderson had a goal and won four draw controls and freshman
Victoria Eiland picked up three groundballs. For UVa-Wise, Jesse French and McKayla Grasham each had three goals. Six players scored two goals and Girardo saved five shots in goal.
The top four teams make the Mountain East Conference Tournament and, at the moment, NDC and the University of Charleston are tied for fourth place.
