No. 10 Mercyhurst defeats Notre Dame

AVON, Ohio - The Notre Dame College baseball team lost 6-1 to No. 10 Mercyhurst on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons were able to record eight hits, however against one of the best pitching groups in the nation.

The Falcons started down in the game after Mercyhurst scored two runs in the top of the first. Notre Dame was able to respond early, though, and put up a run of its own in the bottom of the opening inning. Lukas Thompson scored on a single from Joseph Paskell

Thompson was one of five batters to record a hit. Adam Purdy, Zach Santoro, Joseph Paskell and Zarek Simkovich joined Thompson in the hit column. Paskell and Simkovich have been hot lately and stayed hot on Tuesday as they combined for five hits. Paskell's two hits move his team-high batting average to .383 on the year while Simkovich recorded his second three-hit game in the last three days.

Todd Marshall was the starting pitcher for Notre Dame, and despite allowing four earned runs, he showed what his arm can do as he struck out six batters. Filling out the game on the mound were Kevin Guzik, James Holle, Kenny Pierson and Tyler Gault. Guzik, Pierson and Gault each threw for one inning, allowing zero runs between them. Holle earned time on the mound for two innings and gave up one run while recording one strikeout.

Notre Dame will host Wheeling Jesuit this on Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, for a four-game series. Both days are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
