GLENVILLE, W.Va. – With a 19-point lead in the third quarter, it looked like No. 23 Glenville State women's basketball was going to get one of its signature wins, outscoring its opponent by a large sum (GSC averages a 20.5-point win margin this season). But the Falcons of Notre Dame College had other things in mind.
NDC nearly came all the way back in the fourth quarter, making it a three-point game with just under three minutes to go, but the Pioneers would defend their home court and win 85-76 to improve to 34-0 at home over the past three years. The six-point difference is the closest home game Glenville State has played over that span.
Notre Dame started the game off strong, winning the first quarter 26-20. Then Glenville State took over. In the second and third quarters, GSC outscored its visitors 43-28 to put the Falcons in a 65-54 hole.
In the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter, NDC went on a 23-15 run, but only scored two points in the final three minutes as the top 25 Pioneers closed the game out with five points. During their seven-minute run in the fourth quarter, the Falcons made eight of their 14 attempts.
"The players pulled together and dug deep," said head coach
Lauren Macer. "This team is going to fight and keep working to finish the season out strong."
Notre Dame was led by
Seina Adachi who scored 19 points followed by
Kyleigh Ramlow's 14 and
Jessie Stout's 10. Stout secured her fifth double-double of the season with 14 rebounds, which led both teams.
Jada Marone was second on the team with six rebounds, while she led the team with seven assists.
Katie Karalic also did well passing the ball, totaling five assists of her own.
Notre Dame will play at West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, February 16, at 2 p.m.
