BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - After a three-game drought, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team won both its road games this week, ending their swing with a 2-0 win at West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats, a powerhouse in the MEC, have not defeated the Falcons since 2017.
Notre Dame held steady in the MEC North Division standings. NDC's 12 points is tied for third in the division (the top three teams from each division make the playoffs) with a 3-2-3 conference record. Overall, the Falcons improve to 4-3-4 on the year.Â
As they have done for the majority of the season, the Falcon out-shot their opponents to apply pressure that resulted in 12 shots, including nine on goal, and four corner kicks. Compared to WVWC's seven shots and zero corners.Â
After five shot attempts in the first half, Notre Dame hit on its sixth. With just 43 seconds remaining until the mid-break,
April Gaukin scored for NDC with what would be the game-winning shot. Gaukin was assisted by
Isabel Sentle who would go on to score the second goal of the game for the Falcons.Â
Notre Dame held tough in the second half, going the latter 45 minutes without allowing a shot on goal. Sentle's goal came in the 71st minute to give the Falcons a healthy lead to see things through.Â
Jordan Pasalaqua continued her success in goal with four saves to improve to 2-1-1 on the year.Â
Notre Dame will look to keep things rolling at home this week with two games on Mueller Field. The first will be played on Thursday, October 17, against Davis & Elkins at 3 p.m.Â
