Game Recap: Baseball |

Comeback against FSU comes up short

AVON, Ohio - The Notre Dame College baseball team lost both games against Fairmont State in the first half of a four-game series. FSU won the first game of the day 8-1 and the second game 8-6, but nearly surrendered the second game to the Falcons.

In the first game, Fairmont State got hot in the second inning as they scored five runs. The visitors next three runs were results of Jordan Sanders home runs. Sanders, in back-to-back at bats hit the ball over the fence, scoring two in the third inning and one in the fifth.

Notre Dame broke their scoreless run in the seventh and final inning off a passed ball with the bases loaded. Joseph Paskell came in from third after he came in to pinch hit.

FSU used its momentum in the second game to go up 8-0 in the fourth inning, but Notre Dame would regroup and rally to close the game within two runs before it was over. In the bottom of the fourth, a fielding error by the short stop and a wild pitch resulted in two runs scored for the Falcons. In the fifth,NDC took advantage of another error after Jacob Carpenter hit an RBI to cut Fairmont State's lead to four.

A Naja Garcia single and Lukas Thompson sacrifice fly brought in two more runs in the fifth inning to make it 8-6.

Devon Robb came in to finish the game for the Falcons and finished the sixth and seventh innings without allowing any runs in his third appearance in a week. Robb now ranks second on the team with an ERA of 4.15.

Notre Dame will play Fairmont State in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio.
