Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Falcons fall at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College women's basketball team fell 71-61 on Saturday afternoon at the University of Charleston in a slow-paced game.

After playing their most fast-paced game against West Virginia State on Wednesday, where both teams combined for 174 field goal attempts, the Falcons went into UC and combined for just 103 shots with the Golden Eagles.

NDC was able to come out hot and get started with an 8-2 lead in the first two minutes of quarter one before Charleston recovered. UC would end up taking a 15-14 lead into the second quarter and keep that momentum going to win the second set of 10 minutes 21-13.

The Golden Eagles now had a 36-27 advantage heading into halftime. The energy thrust the home team to a further lead in the third quarter as Charleston would add another seven points to its margin and go up 55-39 heading into the fourth.

Notre Dame got things going again in the fourth quarter, opening play with an eight-point run to eventually win the 22-16 in the final 10 minutes, but it was not enough to close the gap.

Charleston played a clean game throughout, fouling only 15 times, which is the second fewest fouls against a team has had playing the Falcons. The limited fouls resulted in only four free throws for NDC throughout the contest while the Golden Eagles took 17 and converted on 14.

Four players from Notre Dame ended the game in double-digit scoring as the Falcons were led by Jessie Stout (15), Seina Adachi (14), Kyleigh Ramlow (12) and Marisa Finazzo (10).

Due to the teams combining for 51.5 percent shooting, there weren't many rebounds to be had, but Katie Karalic and Maggie King were each able to secure four boards. King played just five minutes and came down with two offensive and two defensive rebounds.

Finazzo and Karalic found open teammates with seven and four assists, respectively. Finazzo and Karalic also helped lead the team defensively with Adachi as Finazzo and Adachi each recorded three steals and Karalic had two blocks and one steal.

Notre Dame will play three non-conference games to end December with No. 1 Ashland first on the docket. NDC heads to Ashland, Ohio on Monday, December 17, for a 5:30 p.m. game.
