SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Notre Dame College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season against Malone on Wednesday evening in a 65-52 contest. The Falcons (2-1) were able to recover in the second half, after trailing 35-21 at the break, to outscore the Pioneers by one in the last two quarters.
Kyleigh Ramlow scored the first points of the game with a layup after 30 seconds of play, but then Malone went on a 10-point run to give themselves enough room to hold onto the lead throughout the rest of the competition. NDC was able to close the gap later in the first to nearly even things out 10-9, but that was the closest Malone would let things get throughout the rest of the game.
A bright spot in the game was junior guard
Seina Adachi, whose 12 field goals and 29 points led both teams. She also secured four rebounds and five steals in 40 minutes of play.
"Seina stepped up tonight," said head coach
Lauren Macer. "Her ability to score the ball helps us stay competitive. She's a great player and knows how to create her own shot, but also plays well off of others. We just needed a little more from everyone else. But we'll bounce back from it. It's early in the season and we're still figuring out lineups and what works best for us. We'll learn from it and move forward."
Katie Karalic made her presence known as well, leading the Falcons in rebounds (seven), assists (seven) and blocks (three). She also added four points.
Tamia Ridley was second on the team in scoring with six points in 12 minutes, shooting 50 percent. Fellow freshman
Theresa Parr totaled six rebounds and three assists.
Notre Dame will look to bounce back this weekend as they begin conference play on Saturday, November 17, at Concord. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
