Adachi shines in loss at Urbana

URBANA, Ohio – The Notre Dame College women's basketball team suffered a 91-81 loss to Urbana University on Saturday afternoon in a battle for second place in the MEC.

The Blue Knights started off the game strong, getting out to a quick 14-6 lead after four minutes of play. Eight of their 14 points came off turnovers in a game that starting off at lightning pace.

NDC responded in the next 2:14 of playing time, going on a 13-3 run to take a 19-17 lead. Unfortunately for the Falcons, that was their only lead of the game as Urbana came back to take a 27-23 lead in quarter one and a 46-39 lead at halftime.

Making 10 of their 16 attempts in the first quarter, Urbana started hot and ended hot, making over 60 percent of their field goals in both the first and fourth quarters. Overall, both teams shot well as Urbana ended with a percentage of 55.7 while Notre Dame made 44.1 percent of its takes.

Highlighting the game for the Falcons was sophomore guard Seina Adachi who finished with a game-high 29 points. Adachi used her speed throughout the contest to earn eight steals as well, tying for second most in a single game in NDC history. Notre Dame ended the game with 17 steals and 24 points off turnovers.

Along with Adachi, Kim Cook scored in double digits with 16 points. Cook and Marisa Finazzo led the team with three assists apiece while Maggie King led the game with nine rebounds.

Another area the Falcons excelled in was offensive rebounding. NDC gathered 15 of their 38 misses and turned that into 14 second-chance points. It was the fourth time this season Notre Dame was able to record at least 15 offensive boards.

NDC moves to 12-7 overall with Urbana sitting at 10-6 as both teams have an 8-4 conference record. The Falcons and Blue Knights will meet up again in the last game of the season on February 24. Despite nine games being played in between their match ups, that game is sure to carry a lot of weight for these teams.

Notre Dame returns home on Wednesday, January 24, to play West Virginia State at 5:30 p.m.
