PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons were held to five shots and lost to the Lake Erie College Storm, 19-2, on the road, on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons (0-1) lose their first regular season game against a NCAA Division II opponent this season. The game represented Lake Erie's (1-0) season opener.
The Storm went up 13-0 before the halftime break, including four goals from Taylor Mathis.
In the second half, the Falcons were able to get two goals, from
Katherine Elsenbeck and
Ashlee Boyko, but they allowed six more goals to Lake Erie.
NDC was able to pick up 15 groundballs but also racked up 17 turnovers. Along with her goal, Boyko scooped up four groundballs and her teammate,
Amber Land, had three groundballs.
Lake Erie had 17 draw controls and took 35 shots in the game, including 23 in the first half.
The Falcons will come back home to play Walsh University on March 15, at Normandy Field. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
