FSU Threes Upset NDC

CHARLESTON, W.VA – The Notre Dame College women's basketball team lost 75-59 to Fairmont State University in the quarterfinals of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Thursday evening.
 
The fifth-seeded FSU was matched up with the fourth-seeded NDC after the Falcons finished the regular season with an eight-game winning streak that included a 75-64 victory against the MEC preseason favorite Fairmont State.
 
The Fairmont State Fighting Falcons took advantage from beyond the arc early, making 10 of 15 attempts in the first two quarters to take a 46-31 lead at halftime. Emily Puskarich broke the MEC Tournament record of three-pointers made in a game with eight, seven coming in the first half.
 
Opposite of FSU, NDC took advantage in the paint scoring 40 on close-range shots. The Falcons recovered well on missed shots throughout the game gathering 18 offensive rebounds and converting 15 second-chance points.
 
Notre Dame challenged its opponent late going on a 12-0 in the first five minutes of fourth quarter to bring the game within 10 points at 62-52, but Puskarich broke the streak with her only three-point make in the second half.
 
NDC was led in scoring by Kim Cook and Seina Adachi who totaled 16 and 10 points, respectively. Kelsey Miller and Jessie Stout tied the Falcons MEC Tournament record with 12 rebounds apiece.
 
Notre Dame finishes its season with a record of 15-12. The Falcons have had a winning record for four-straight seasons and have not fallen below .500 since joining the NCAA Division II ranks.
 
NDC was honored this season with two All-MEC members in Miller and Cook while head coach Katie Hine was recognized as the MEC Coach of the Year. The Falcons will have 17 of its 19 players eligible to return next year.
