AMHERST, N.Y. – The Notre Dame College women's basketball team trailed 43-36 going into halftime at Daemen College, but a surge in the third quarter and hot shooting lifted the team to ultimately win 82-75.
The Falcons started the game off strong, going up by as many as eight points in the first quarter and carrying a 25-20 lead after the first 10 minutes of play, but the Wildcats jumped ahead in the second quarter. Daemen outscored NDC 23-11 in the second quarter to earn a seven-point lead at the break.
Moments later, Notre Dame came out with one of its best quarters of the year to outscore the hosts 28-8 and take a 64-51 lead into the fourth quarter, which would be too much for Daemen to come back from despite winning the final 10 minutes 24-18.
Seina Adachi carried her team to victory in the second half, leading the Falcons in points (18), rebounds (five) and assists (four). Adachi finished with 28 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
"Seina played well tonight," head coach
Lauren Macer said. "I'm very proud of her. She shot well and made good decisions on both ends of the court."
Adachi and her teammates made a record-breaking 16 three-point shots throughout the game, shooting 50 percent from distance just one game after the team made 14 in a win against UVa-Wise. Adachi led the team with six threes while
Kim Cook,
Kyleigh Ramlow and Maskenzie Meckes each had three.
Ten of the team's 16 threes came in the second half, when NDC made 15 total field goals compared to just eight from the Wildcats.
"We had to come together in the second half and play as a team," Macer said. "It was good to see them play well as a unit after adjusting at halftime."
Cook, Ramlow and Meckes joined Adachi in double-digit scoring with 13, 13 and 10, respectively.
Marisa Finazzo led the team with five assists while
Katie Karalic had four.
The win marks the third straight for NDC as the Falcons are now 4-2 with both losses coming against top 10 opponents. It is the best start for the program since the 2013-14 season.
Notre Dame will continue its break from conference play on Monday, November 27 at home against Ursuline. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
