Mannozzi and Thomas earn All American honors

MARION, Ind. -- The Notre Dame Track & Field team finished their season over the weekend with a fine performance at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. (Results)

Notre Dame sent 15 athletes to the competition, came away with eight top 20 performances, and produced a pair of All Americans. The men placed 43rd overall while the women finished 49th.

Senior #Michael Mannozzi# finished third in the 5000-Meter Race Walk, with a time of 23:04.50, earning All American status and was also recognized as an NAIA Champion of Character. Also earning All American status was #Jessica Thomas#. Thomas finished sixth in the 100-Meter High Hurdles, finishing the event with a season best time of 14.31 seconds, placing her sixth overall.

On the men's side, #Jim Boals# ended up 20th overall in the Discus Throw, with a 43.02 meter toss. #Tim Robinson# turned in his finest performance of the season in the Shot Put, with a 15.27 meter toss, and the Falcon foursome of #Brandon Tolliver#, #Joseph Leyland#, #Demar Sheffey# and #Andre Robinson# finished 17th in the 4x400 meter relay, delivering their best performance of the season, finishing the event in 3:17.55.

For the women, #Tiffany Tucker# just missed All American status in the 100-Meter High Hurdles, placing ninth with a time of 14.66. In the semis, she ran a 14.35, which was her finest performance this season. #Noelle Johnson# finished her successful season by placing 15th in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Johnson turned in a 5.33 meter performance in the Long Jump and an 11.45 meter leap in the Triple Jump. #Samantha Murphy#'s 11.61 meter toss in the Shot Put placed her 27th in the event. The team of Tucker, #Ava Woods#, #Lauren Macer#, and #Shawnta Davis# ran the 4x100-Meter Relay in 48.01, and finished 10th overall.

“It was a great three days of competition. Our athletes came out and gave all they had,” said Head Coach #Rico Franklin#. “Coming home with two All-Americans and eight top 20 performances was a great way to end a very exciting season. We are all thrilled with how things turned out for us.”
