Falcons roll in Wheeling

Notre Dame competes in Bill Van Horne Invitational

WHEELING, W.Va. – The second outdoor event in Notre Dame's 2010 Track & Field season produced quite a few first place finishers for the Falcons, and one more national qualifier at the Bill Van Horne Invitational.

On the men's side, #Demar Sheffey# sprinted to a first place finish in the 200-Meter Dash with a time of 22.25 seconds, and finished second in the 400-Meter with a time of 49.44. #Brandon Tolliver# won the 100-Meter Dash, finishing the event in 11.21 seconds, and ran the 200-Meter in 22.59 seconds, finishing fourth. #Adam Saintz# finished second in the 110-Meter High Hurdles with a time of 15.60 seconds, and Tim Robinson's 14.98-meter toss in the Shot Put placed him fourth. The team of Sheffey, Tolliver, #Joseph Leyland#, and #Tom McKrill# won the 4x100-Meter Relay with a time of 42.60 seconds.

#Tiffany Tucker# stood out for the women, running a 14.93 in the preliminaries of the 100-Meter High Hurdles to qualify for the National Championships. The Akron, Ohio, native then ran a 15.27 to win the event. #Jessica Thomas# finished second in the event with a time of 15.5 seconds. #Noelle Johnson# leaped to a first place finish in both the Long Jump (5.27-meters) and Triple Jump (11.02-Meters). #Samantha Murphy#'s 12.02-meter toss in the Shot Put placed her second in the event, while #Shawnta Davis# finished second in both the 400-Meter Dash (26.32 seconds) and the 200-Meter (59.08 seconds). The team of Tucker, Thomas, Davis and #Ava Woods# won the 4x100-Meter Relay with a time of 49.74 seconds.

“This was an incredible meet for our athletes,” said Head Coach #Rico Franklin#. “We had many seasonal best performances and added another National Qualifier. Our athletes continue to work hard in practice and stay positive. We took another step in the right direction today.”

The Falcons will head to Canton, Ohio, for their next event. Notre Dame will compete in the Jack Hazen Open on Saturday, April 3.
