Junior linkster #Julie Trace# highlighted the Falcon performance at Colonial Hills GC, with a 97-93--190, which placed sixth in the field of 30 golfers. NDC did not card a team score; only two members of the Falcon squad competed in the tournament's second day. Seven AMC programs took part in the tournament, held in Harrod, Ohio. Walsh won the event, with a team score of 384-378--762.
Walsh's Kim Smith earned medalist honors at the AMC Tournament, carding 92-89--181 over the two days of cold, windy and rainy weather on the 5,955-yard, par-72 layout. She led a Cavalier squad that posted four top-15 finishes. Walsh came back in the tournament to beat Malone, which held a five-shot lead after day one. Malone fired a 379-403--782 and placed third.
“These were definitely tough weather conditions,” said Head Coach #Nick Formica#. “But that's part of golf; you have to battle the elements and the course. That was good experience for our girls.”
Trace's sixth-place finish earned her Second Team All-AMC honors at the event. “I'm happy for Julie,” said Formica. “A couple strokes here and there and she is contending for medalist or runner-up. She is a talented player.”
Sophomore #Mollie Moreland# shot 143-132--275 and placed 26th for Notre Dame (0-5).
The Falcons' next event is slated for Saturday, April 25, when the team travels to North Canton, Ohio, to compete in the Ohio Cup, played at The Sanctuary GC.
