SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons finished a perfect weekend at Mellon Pool, their home facility, with a 19-12 thumping of Penn State-Behrend on Sunday afternoon.
The victory for Notre Dame (6-4, 4-1 CWPA), came a day after the Falcons won twice in their first day of action at home this season. The Falcons have now won three in a row, and six out of their last seven.
Notre Dame established control early on, and never trailed in the contest. The Falcons scored the first three goals of the game. Penn State-Behrend came back though, and at the 7:48-mark in the second quarter, came within a goal (4-3). However, that was as close as they would get the rest of the contest.
The Falcons scored 10 out of the game's next 13 goals. NDC pulled away in the third quarter, where they outscored Penn State-Behrend, 6-2, and took a commanding 15-6 lead over PSB into the fourth quarter, where they were able hold off a late PSB run.
Milan Burcus led the charge for Notre Dame with five goals on the afternoon, including three in the third quarter.
Vanja Kopilas found the back of the net four times, giving him 10 goals over his last two games. Six-foot-four junior, Ahmed Mami also scored four goals on the afternoon.
Notre Dame is 2-0 against Penn State-Behrend this season, and 3-0 all time. Their 19 goal output marks their third highest in program history.
The Falcons will continue their sting of five consecutive home tilts when they return to action on Sunday, October 2, at Mellon Pool. The Falcons will play a double header, hosting Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) at noon, and Mercyhurst (Pa.) at 4 p.m.
