2010 Falcon Golf Classic an incredible success

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- StoneWater Golf Course hosted over 139 golfers for the 2010 Falcon golf classic on Monday morning, and the Notre Dame Athletic Department smashed their record for money raised at the event, on a very successful day for Notre Dame College. (Photo Gallery)

There were well over 30 foursomes that participated in the event. The event included breakfast, 18-holes of golf, a buffet luncheon, several prizes and an afternoon of fun. Family, friends, and alumni endured a light storm in the morning, but enjoyed a peaceful golf atmosphere for the entire afternoon. The team of Erik Gudenas, Kevin McGarry, Tony Pinzone, and Brooks Steputis won the event with a score of 15-under par. Second place went to Ben Maibach, Greg Pickard, Travis Snyder, and Eric Walter. Several other prizes were awarded as well for longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin.

Several celebrities were in attendance for the event, including former Indians pitcher and current Notre Dame assistant baseball coach, Len Barker, ESPN 850 WKNR radio personality Greg Brinda, Sports Time Ohio's "All bets are off" host Bruce Drennan, former Browns players Brian Brennan and Dave Jones, and more.

The athletic department raised over 30,000 dollars at the event, well over 12,000 dollars more than the amount raised at the 2009 Falcon Golf Classic. There were over 30 sponsors for the event, ranging from hole sponsors, to title sponsors, raffle prizes and more.

"The event was a huge success because of the Notre Dame community and friends of Falcon Athletics," said Assistant Athletic Director Kevin Bille. "We look forward to building from this and continually making it a top notch event that benefits all of our student-athletes." Bille served on the 2010 Falcon Golf Classic committee along with Cleveland Indians VP of Public Relations, Bob Dibiasio, Director of Annual Giving Al DiFranco and assistant men's basketball coach Rich Garcia.

The golf outing, which was first played in 2002, supports Notre Dame's 23 athletic teams and its more than 400 student athletes. Funds raised in recent years have supported the institution of new programs such as Football, Bowling, Water Polo and the construction of a new on-campus practice field.

"This event was an incredible success, and it would not have been possible without the support of so many great people," said NDC director of athletics Sue Hlavacek.
