SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Newly named Notre Dame head football coach, #Adam Howard#, comes to College Road with an impressive, all-Ohio coaching background and with ties to Baldwin-Wallace College. And that has caught the eye of an Ohio coaching legend with similar ties:
“
Adam Howard is a coach who is dedicated to his players and to making his [college] better on and off the field,” said Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel.
Tressel noted Howard's ascent in the coaching ranks over the last six years, when Howard was the defensive coordinator at Baldwin-Wallace, where Tressel himself played and where his father, Lee, coached for 23 seasons.
“Adam's enthusiasm and energy make him a great fit for Notre Dame as they begin a football program there.”
Notre Dame announced on Nov. 25 that a football program would be developed. Howard was hired as NDC's first head coach on Jan. 26. He spent the last six seasons as Baldwin-Wallace's defensive coordinator, where he led a Yellow Jacket defense that ranked among the best in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Tressel lettered at B-W (playing for his father, Lee Tressel) as a quarterback from 1971-74, earning all-conference honors his senior season, as he led the Yellow Jackets to an 8-2 record. He graduated cum laude with a degree in education in 1975.
