Women's team earns win in road split

Rieger, Whittington lead NDC to victory

BUCKHANNON, West Va. -- Notre Dame's men's and women's squads split in a dual meet with West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, with the Falcon men losing, 176-79, and the women earning a hard-fought 136-125 win. (Results)

NDC earned a combined 36 medals (of 84 possible) in the split, which runs the men's 2009-10 record to 0-6 and the women's to 2-4. The men garnered 17 medals (10 silver, seven bronze), while the women's team captured 19 (six gold, 10 silver, three bronze). #Jordan Cvijanovic#, #Patrick McRae# and #Greg Pristov# paced the men's team, with each earning four medals. #Kelly O'Connor#, #Lauryssa Rieger# and #Emily Whittington# collected four medals apiece for the NDC women.

Men's Competition
Cvijanovic, McRae and Pristov each earned one silver and one bronze individually and an additional two relay silvers. West Virginia Wesleyan swept the 14 men's events overall.

Cvijanovic earned a program record in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 1:06.97. #Chris Tuttle# also set an NDC record on the day, when he posted a time of 18:02.22 in the 1650 Free, a time that qualifies him for nationals.

Women's Competition
NDC's women earned their close win thanks in large part to a number of silver-medal performances. WVWC won eight of the meet's 14 events.

Falcon highlights include Emily Whittington posting two season-best times (200 Back, 200 IM), with a national-qualifying time in one (2:15.71 in the 200 IM). #Shannan Fitzgerald# also notched a qualifying time, swimming a second-place 2:23.53 in the 200 Fly (#Maria Buenano# won the event, with a time of 2:22.76).

Lauryssa Rieger set a new Falcon record in the 1650 Free. Rieger won the marathon event, touching in with a time of 19:22.93. 

The Blue & White will return to Mellen Pool to host a dual meet in their next event (Pitt-Bradford, Saturday, Nov. 21, 1 p.m.).
